My dearest blog readers it has been far too long. I must confess that I am not very good at moving. Many of you know that this past summer my husband and I moved to a new apartment. In the midst of the transition and unpacking I did not blog for a month or two. Well friends – we moved again! And this time for good 🙂 We bought our first home right here in downtown Nashville area. We are so thankful – but man moving is tough and a quite a busy process! And certainly no good for blogging.
If you’re like me, in the midst of busy seasons you love convenient meals or snacks. And let’s be honest, when it comes to Paleo snacks that you don’t have to prep, like plain nuts, raw veggies, or a piece of fruit, they can become super boring.
Thankfully I stumbled upon Paleo Scavenger Granola. In the midst of the busyness and boring snacks – this perfectly chewy and slightly crunchy granola made by the wonderful Brittany of Paleo Scavenger has become a true treat!
Brittany graciously sent me a couple bags of her granola to try – Cherry and Original.
As soon as I opened the box of granola I read the ingredients on the back of each pack (is anyone else OCD about ingredient reading??). It was exactly what I hoped for – just real food.
I love the simple ingredients Brittany uses – nuts, coconut, coconut oil, honey, dried fruit, and vanilla. That’s it! And that’s the way it should be.
But even better than the ingredients is the taste! The vanilla, honey, and coconut oil just create this perfect coating of goodness over the nuts and coconut. I also love the texture – each bite is delightfully chewy with bits of crunch. You could actually eat this in public and not sound like a horse.
I honestly cannot decide which is tastier – the Cherry or Original. I love the tartness that the dried cherries add, but I also love the versatility of the Original – you could top it or use it as a topper for almost anything!
What first really grabbed my attention and led me to want to try this granola are these words: “locally-made,” “small batches.” and “handcrafted.” I knew that if these words really did define Paleo Scavenger that the granola would be quality. I have found these words to be true – this granola is certainly quality.
I love this “Craft Movement” that has begun in which entrepreneurs decide that they are going to provide a consistently well-made product without taking shortcuts. In a world where many businesses are looking for the easy way out and settling to produce products that are inexpensive, but are just no good – I’m thankful for the people that take what is often the much harder road. Supporting businesses like Paleo Scavenger helps to support people who are really trying to do a good job.
The owner and creator of Paleo Scavenger Granola, Brittany, has an awesome story.
After earning her MBA in Entrepreneurship Brittany had a couple options – such as stay in her national account sales role in a great food company or continue with the launch of a tech company she had started. She decided against the tech company start-up, but still had the “itch” to do something! So she decided to leave her corporate job behind and start Paleo Scavenger Granola. What inspired her to do so?
“About two years ago, as I was training for a half marathon, I started eating a Paleo diet because of its many health benefits (i.e. more energy, faster recovery, etc.), but it was challenging to find Paleo-friendly snacks. So instead of searching for Paleo snacks at the store, I began making my own. I carried my granola with me in sandwich bags for a quick, easy snack any time of day. As I shared it with family and friends, many suggested that I package and sell it. If I’m having this problem, then others must be too. At least that was the thought. So, with my several years of experience in the food industry, and the start-up energy fueling me… I decided to quit my corporate job and go for it!”
