Why I Choose Safer Beauty Products
If you google “toxic beauty products” these days you are going to get A LOT of results. You will quickly be flooded with an overwhelming amount of information. The list of ingredients to avoid is rather long. Thousands of ingredients. Impossible to memorize these and the reasons why not to use them.
Enter: The Environmental Working Group (EWG.) This is my resource for researching all of the products we use. And it’s often my resource for finding products. They have done all of the research for me on the ingredients in my products. I can know what the ingredient actually is and if it could potentially be hazardous to my health and the environment.
Let’s talk really quickly about why this matters. Hazardous ingredients can cause a long list of issues. Some major ones that are really relevant today are infertility, hormone imbalance, allergies and cancer. Minor issues might include eczema, headaches, achey joints, and any other inflammation induced condition.
We can ignore the warnings all we want, but it doesn’t change the reality that we are consumers in an unregulated market. You are your own best advocate.
That can be overwhelming. We want to live in a world where we can just grab some mascara or face cream and not worry about whether or not it could cause us some major health issue. That’s why I am thankful for organizations like the EWG.
This is also why I am thankful for Beautycounter. This is a cosmetics company not simply seeking to sell safer products, but one that comes with a mission. Safer beauty products for ALL. Advocating for greater regulation of what goes into our cosmetics.
I have been considering joining the Beautycounter mission as a consultant for a couple years now. I have loved their products for four years and continue to be impressed with the quality and ingredient list. Almost every product is EWG verified, meaning there are no ingredients of concern, the company is transparent and there are good manufacturing practices.
As Beautycounter has grown they have been offering more and more opportunities to join as consultant for free with the purchase of a starter kit (basically a set of products to help you get started with your business.) Honestly most of those kits were too great of an investment for me. I am a stay at home mom of three small children, 4 and under. I just cannot invest a great amount of money in a business I may not be able to give enough time to in order to have any sort of return on my investment. Recently Beautycounter released a starter kit that simply contains samples. TONS of samples. Over 70 samples. For just $100. A small investment to have all you need to truly start a business. Samples are everything when it comes to giving people the opportunity to try a product before purchasing. You can let the product speak for itself versus feeling like you have to convince someone to buy something they have never tried.
So here I am, starting my Beautycounter journey. I want my daughter to have access to safer beauty products wherever she goes. I want her to live in a world where she can run by any drug store and grab some mascara. Until then I want to provide her and my family with the best and safest products I can.
And guess what? It’s not too late for you to get to join in on the journey. Enrollment is still free with the purchase of a starter kit until the end of April 2020. And the sample starter kit ($100) is still available. It’s a great opportunity to jump in. Updated to include that as of May 2020 you can join for $50 and start your business immediately with an online enrollment kit through the end of May 2020! You can still purchase the sample kit for $100. So now for $150 you can start your own business. These deals will not stick around. Beautycounter knows the hardship many of us are going through and is offering this amazing deal to anyone who wants to take a chance.
